Before, my protagonist had some very weak motivation. (As in, she was only motivated because she had to be, solely as a literary device. The weak motivation made for a weak character overall).

But now the protagonist has very strong motivation. Plus (and this is the best part) the motivation was sitting right there in the backstory all along. It perfectly ties in with an already-established plot point that will be revealed later. It couldn't have worked out any better.

It's amazing how much this one tiny little point changed everything after that. I added it at the end of Chapter 2. My most recent draft of Chapter 3 is now completely unusable. (And that's a good thing.)

I just wish I hadn't wasted an entire weekend trying to find it.
